Workshop to strengthen independent sanitation stakeholders on the management of fecal sludge in Ivory Coast

From April 8 to 11, 2025, a workshop was organized in Abidjan with autonomous sanitation stakeholders - the Waste and Sanitation Management Company, The World Bank and EDE International to better address the issue of sewage sludge treatment.

EDE MISSION CONTEXT

As part of the operation of the Fecal Sludge Treatment Plants (FSTPs), the Waste and Sanitation Management Company, with support from The World Bank and EDE International, is organizing a workshop program for various stakeholders in the sector, including:

  • authorized emptying operators;
  • the water treatment infrastructure operator - DELVIC Sanitation Initiatives;
  • SGDS managers responsible for the management of the FSTPs.

SERVICES PROVIDED

This training took place from Tuesday, April 8th to Friday, April 11th, 2025, and is part of a drive to improve the professional practices of the various sanitation stakeholders. It aims to strengthen safety, service quality, and collaboration between them. The following topics are covered during the training session:

  • Best practices for fecal sludge collection, transportation, and disposal;
  • Prevention of health and environmental risks;
  • Current regulations and approval criteria;
  • Communication and collaboration between local authorities and the operator;
  • Monitoring and implementation of the Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) and the Internal Organization Plan (IOP);
  • Management of complaints, emergencies, and incidents;
  • Monitoring of performance indicators and regulatory reporting.
